And as information technology has become essential to the fabric of society, the work of corporate research labs is more crucial than ever in sustaining today's pace of technological innovation.
Please join me in celebrating 20 years of innovation here at Almaden. At this lab, researchers have moved atoms; made advances in giant magnetoresistance and quantum information; created the general parallel file system for supercomputers; revolutionized database technology; advanced storage virtualization; and pioneered a brand-new area of study: services science. We are proud of our past accomplishments and excited about what the future holds.
